Irene A. Garcia - Egert aP, FABORM

Acupuncturist

Irene is a licensed acupuncturist in the State of Florida and is certified as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (Dipl. O.M.) by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She began her studies at the prestigious Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, and continued studies at The Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She obtained her fellowship with the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (www.aborm.org).

Her mentor, Dr. Peilan Yao, M.D. (China), AP, is a seventh generation herbalist who specializes in fertility and gynecological issues. Working with her gave Irene invaluable experience and knowledge of how herbal formulas can truly reduce the pain and suffering of many gynecological issues. Irene has since devoted much of her practice to treating women’s health issues and has completed many specialized courses in the application of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for treating reproductive and pregnancy conditions. She has undergone extensive post-graduate training in this area and has worked in conjunction with other health practitioners including western MD’s, endocrinologists, physical therapists, and birth professionals.

In addition, Irene has extensive experience working with psycho-emotional issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She also has a keen interest in the rejuvenating effects associated with acupuncture and practices a specialized technique called Mei Zen for a natural approach to facial and neck rejuvenation.

Irene has completed Sharon Weizenbaum’s Graduate Mentorship Program. This two-year program focuses on refining diagnostic skills to produce safe and effective herbal and acupuncture treatments.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Irene completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration before moving to the Chicago area. Her journey into the world of alternative medicine began when it became evident that her daily routine filled with the stresses of corporate America was negatively affecting her health. The demanding lifestyle led her to her first yoga class. This ancient science not only brought back peace and tranquility to Irene’s life, but also introduced her to the philosophy of how the body can restore its health naturally. Irene proceeded to complete her yoga teacher certification and shortly after was introduced to acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

Irene has always had a passion for health and nutrition and as a now long-time practitioner of meditation and yoga, Irene threads mindfulness teachings into her treatment sessions. She uses a comprehensive strategy of care that is educational and effective. Her aim is to help patients unfold into overall greater health and well-being
